Expectation
It's a bastard isn't it !

Fans are complaining after missing out on world stars, an injury to a 20 million pound player and poor performances in a narrow loss at Stamford bridge and a draw in the away leg of a Europa league play off game.

* shakes head and laughs *

I've been supporting this club for to long !

Re: Expectation
i stole this from another site, but it shows very clearly where the level of expectation has come from - they only have themselves to blame!

"We’re a high profile London club…we’ve got a fantastic stadium and we now may threaten some of the big clubs because we’ve got a big capacity." (Sullivan)

'I see West Ham challenging for the top six consistently, becoming one of the top 10 most successful clubs in Europe — and short term (I see) breaking our transfer record this summer, selling nobody we want to keep, filling our new stadium . . .' (Brady)

"West Ham have a good team, but they do need a proven striker who can help them push for a top-six or a top-four finish in the Premier League." (Brady)

“So how much love is that for West Ham? I actually offered him £150,000-a-week to come back plus bonuses,” (Sullivan)

We've put a bid in today for €30million for a player and other bids will be going in,' he told Sky Sports News HQ.
'We're going to make a £20m or £25m bid for a player in England later this week. Whatever happens we intend to bring a top striker in" (Sullivan)

Re: Expectation
I dont rate any side that just hoofs up to carroll. If that is a tasty side with one strategy i pity the side and blame the owners for not supporting the manager

you're always a result away from negativity its the modern game and young pups of today

I would too but it doesn't mean that we haven't got a tasty side already.

Re: Expectation
From what I've seen so far this season, my expectations for the current campaign are a lot lower than they were at the end of last season.

Re: Expectation
I'm happy with gradual and sustainable success. I really try and enjoy the improvements in our performances and squad as it really was not very long ago that we had Baldock and Carew up top in the championship with Nolan lumbering around the pair of them.

I really think that a lot of our fans would only be happy the instant success that comes with an oil money take over.

Re: Expectation
Spot on bowboy, we have wasted this window by buying crap free transfers and loans in the positions we didnt need. My expectations are low after a projected summer of promise

Re: Expectation
I don't think we have improved the squad from last season. The defence was tighter withTomkins in it and Tore is not an improvement on Antomio.

Re: Expectation
I do overly worry about things sometimes because we've seen some really bad situations before.

Roeder finished 7th one season and then we relegated the next. With a squad which relatively speaking was better than ours is now.

I think in life, if youre not constantly pushing forward your just going backwards. There is no such thing as standing still because everyone else is moving forward so you have to do the same.

It's early days yet, but if bad form settles in it gets diffulcut to get out. We would have got relegated with Allardyce had Caroll/Nolan not come back from injury and we won a few games near the end of the seaon.

There really is a fine line between success and failure out here.

Does anyone expect us to tackle four competitions this season with just one right back in th esquad?

I'm gutted they are getting Benteke, I think we should have been going all out for him instead of fucking around with Bacca.

In a few hours time, Crystal fucking Palace will have a higher record transfer than us.

That's pretty depressing!

I expect us to improve our first eleven every season, particularly one that brings the phenomenal financial returns that this one does.

Re: Expectation
Scorch.
My point is not that I expect us to do better merely because we are in a new stadium. I simply think the owners should be backing up the expectations they set in order to sell the move. They are failing to do that and that is what foments the current dissatisfaction.
I don't think there is anything so wrong that a win or two or a decent couple of signings wouldn't put right but I do believe the onus is on the owners to do more.
I've been a supporter plenty long enough not to expect success or even consistency for that matter. I just think that there is currently a gap between the expectation set by the owners (not me) and their actual deeds. As long as this gap remains there will be disquiet, that much is inevitable.
And don't get me started on the plastic glasses now being used pre-match in the Bow Bells....

Re: Expectation
As has been said there are 6 clubs (excluding Leicester) that top players would sign for before considering us

Breaking into that top 6 elite is difficult & getting harder

Not too long ago the likes of Chelsea & Man City for example, would be considered also rans but they're now pretty much in a position to buy in any player they want (obviously at a price)

It's too early to say how much our new signings this summer will improve our squad, but none of them look considerably better than what we already have & several play in positions that we don't urgently need strengthening

I'd be fairly happy with mid-table & a decent cup run for this season

Let's be honest, we've had a shakey start

Re: Expectation
The expectation would be high this season because of the last, regardless of the stadium. I don't think where we are now playing our home games makes a difference at all to most level headed people's expectations.

Probably only the young or the foolish genuinely think this. I also think it's slightly insulting to make the claim that West Ham fans other than those mentioned above have had their expectations raised by the club because of the move. Give us a bit more credit.
